Trail grading

The difficulty grades used for Oxfam Trailwalker maps are based on the standard Australian Walking Track Grading System. For the purposes of the event, the grading system provides an indication of which sections of the trail are the most challenging and which are the least.
Grade 3: The trail is a formed walking track suitable for most fitness levels and requires basic bushwalking experience. Trail may include natural hazards such as steep slopes, unstable surfaces and minor water crossings in addition to many steps.
Grade 4: The trail is long, rough and steep with limited directional signage. Trail includes many obstacles including some water crossings. Walkers require a moderate level of specialised bushwalking skills such as navigation skills and need to be self-reliant, particularly in regard to emergency first aid.
Grade 5: The trail is at times very rough and difficult and predominately unmarked. Trail includes numerous water crossings in addition to other natural obstacles. Walkers require a high level of specialised bushwalking skills including navigation and remote emergency first aid.

Please note: On event weekend all trails will be marked by Oxfam.
