Training sessions
Training sessions will be held in May and will provide you with an overview of the event and specific details about your role. The sessions are compulsory for some volunteer roles (listed below) but all volunteers are very welcome to attend. They are designed to be informative and will make your assigned roles easier to perform.
It is compulsory for the following volunteer roles to attend a training session:
- Trail Markers
- Sweep Teams
- Trail Marshals
- Bus Marshals
- Check in/out Operators
- Checkpoint Coordinators
- Assistant Checkpoint Coordinators
- Information Officers
- Parking Marshals
- Parking Coordinators
Volunteers performing other roles are also very welcome to attend. All training sessions will be held at Oxfam Australia’s Brisbane office at Level 4, 269 Wickham St Fortitude Valley.
Public transport
Public transport is the best and easiest way to get here. If travelling by bus or train, 269 Wickham St is situated just 50m from Fortitude Valley Railway Station.
Via Car/Bike:
Wickham Street is one-way travelling northward. There is various metered street parking around this area or you can choose to park in the Secure Parking building which can be accessed either on Warner St or Ballow St. This is quite expensive though so we would encourage you to use public transport or utilise the street parking. Bikes can be bought up to the office for security or chained up on the ground level.
Unable to make it?
If you are required to attend training for your role, but are unable to attend a training session, please let us know via email as we may need to provide further training over the phone. We advise all volunteers to read through your Position Description, Volunteer Handbook and to watch one of our Youtube training videos. Please note that not all of the roles currently have a training video, those that do are listed below:
- Check In/Out Operators
- Parking Coordinators/Marshals
- Checkpoint Coordinators/Assistant Checkpoint Coordinators
- Information Officers
- Trail Marshals
- Trail Markers
- Sweep Team
