This year we are celebrating 20 years of Oxfam Trailwalker, with the first two events kicking off in Sydney and Adelaide back in 1999.
For sport fans, the year 1999 will bring back memories of the legendary Tony Lockett becoming our greatest goal scorer in AFL history or Australia winning the 1999 Cricket World Cup. For others, 1999 was a crazy year because of the world-wide phenomenon; Y2K. But for 500 adventurous people in teams of four, 1999 will bring back memories of taking on the inaugural Oxfam Trailwalker, raising over $250,000!
Since then we have had more than 40 events across Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney, with walkers raising more than $100 million dollars to support our programs and advocacy. Over those 40 events we have seen more than 50,000 walkers cross the finish line and achieve something extraordinary that has inspired others and proved something to themselves.
For us, our 20th anniversary is the perfect time to reflect on these amazing stories and we hope to see you out on the trail whether you are returning for your twentieth time or giving it a crack for the very first time.
And in case you missed it from our Melbourne event, we’ll be rewarding you with a 20th anniversary finishers medal at both the Brisbane and Sydney events in 2019.
