Today, I am sad to confirm that we have made the decision to cancel Oxfam Trailwalker Sydney 2020 due to the ongoing uncertainty around the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, and public health policies and restrictions.
The cancellation of the Sydney event is hugely disappointing for us all, but the health and safety of our walkers, volunteers, support crew and all who are involved in Oxfam Trailwalker Sydney is our main priority. The current environment and ongoing uncertainty have made it very difficult to know what restrictions or regulations to expect in the months ahead, and it is therefore extremely difficult to plan a complex event like Trailwalker.
We understand that you have been training hard and putting considerable effort into fundraising. We are extremely appreciative of your commitment.
The $23,863 raised from Trailwalker Sydney 2020 is already being used to improve the lives of vulnerable people living in poverty around the world – including those who are likely to be hit hardest by COVID-19.
Oxfam is responding to COVID-19 in some of the world’s poorest countries, like Yemen, Bangladesh and Timor Leste. We’re distributing essential supplies including personal protective equipment and hygiene kits. We are providing emergency materials and food to households, upgrading water and sanitation systems at refugee camps and health facilities, and continuing training and awareness-raising activities.
To support you, we’ve put together some FAQs which I hope will provide further clarity. In addition, if you have any feedback or would like to make suggestions, please contact our remote team on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Take care and stay safe,
Events Fundraising Coordinator Sydney
