We’re sad to say that in 2020, we are unable to use beautiful Bellbird Grove as our Checkpoint 5 location. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service have informed us that delayed regeneration work is taking place in the area. This may impact on our event weekend.
Thankfully, we have been working with our committed stakeholders and have rerouted our trail to create a new 100km route for 2020 (well, 100.3km to be exact). For those of you that love our trail, you will be pleased to know that the first 63.1km has been retained.
The new route:
The first 63.1km of our trail will still start at Mount Glorious, and take you through Checkpoints 1, 2 and 3 before climbing a short (but steep) hill up to Scrub Road, Checkpoint 4, this is also one of our most remote bush checkpoints. Thankfully this is supported by superstar volunteers who will wrap you up and bring you plentiful cups of tea.
Upon leaving Checkpoint 4, you will then travel 16.3km to Enoggera Dam (Checkpoint 5). Here you will be able to meet your support crew, visit our volunteer physio team, and for one lucky team, even visit your own private porta-shower.
Once you leave Enoggera Dam, you will then head towards our new site, Green Hill Reservoir. Once again, you can meet your support crew here for the final boost of morale before you tackle the last 11km to Hoop Pine Picnic Ground.
While the last 37km of the route has changed from our previously published route, the terrain is the same so any training on our previous routes is still a valuable addition to your preparation.
Bellbird Grove is also the site of our event registration early on the Friday morning. This has also been relocated. All team leaders will receive a printed map book in the next couple of weeks. You can also download each section as a pdf or GPX file on our website today.
Remember that while we recommend you take a printed map book on all training walks and during the event, the trail will be marked on event weekend.
